I’m stuck in a long lecture in civil procedure again. Can I get some entertainment going my way?

Also, against all odds I’ve been unbanned on reddit. Wooooo!

I’ve never seen how narrow the 126 footwell is. Can you operate with both feet in there?

Yeah, although it requires some getting used to. My shoe size is 44 EU, 10 UK or 10.5 US.

If they pushed the front wheels out by say 10cm there would probably be no issues.

So a very normal shoe size. Who did they design this car for? Midgets?

Wheels are narrow as it is, I don’t think there’s room to push them out.

Sorry I meant forwards, like extending the wheelbase.

I’ve got size 7-8 shoes, so my feet should still be able to fit in there! :)

Also, yay on your unbanning-ness!

The tight footwell honestly works better than it has any right to in theory. Honestly, the most annoying bit is the fact that the back end of the in dash cubby (the one you can swap for a radio) hangs quite low, so it’s easy to kick it out when coming off the gas pedal.

Working better than it has any right to is in fact a bit of a theme throughout this car. :D

That would kinda defeat the point of it being a very small car though.

Yeah, the wheels are already at the corners so any increase in wheelbase would increase overall length. Just looks so tight in there.

Haha, from what I’ve read - yes.....so much of the 126 (and original 500 too!) works better than you would think given the size, etc. It...just, sortof works! Haha! :D

Wait, so the cubby slides in....? As in it’s not bolted on and you can literally kick it out by accident...? Only thing about the footwell that would feel weird to me is the top-hinged clutch and brake, but a floor-hinged gas pedal, that would feel weird coming from owning two cars with all top-hinged pedals...

I can pretty much guarantee that the floor mounted gas pedal isn’t going to feel weird for you. What is going to be really weird initially is how damn stiff it is, even with a well lubricated cable and the correct spring.

Oh? I wonder why it’s so stiff...just the amount of routing required to bring it to the front from the engine in the rear combined with a stiff spring, or...?

Yeah. When we first bought the car it had some random big-ass spring in there, which I thought was the reason for the stiffness. Then we replaced both the spring and the cable (and the pedal itself) and it was only a moderate improvement. My dad confirmed, based on his experience of owning a 126p before, that it’s just how it is.
